Reason We Celebrate Grandparents Day:
To honor grandparents, give grandparents a chance to honor grandchildren and to make children aware of the great source of knowledge that can be gained from the elderly.

History of Grandparents Day (U.S):

  • 1970 - Marian McQuade from West Virginia spearheaded the campaign to have a national Grandparents Day. It was first advocated for lonely elderly residents in nursing homes and for shut-ins.
  • 1978 - Grandparents Day was officially proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter.
