About Character Map Common Characters That Aren't On Your Keyboard To create these characters, hold down the Alt key (usually located next to the space bar) then enter the numbers on your number pad on your keyboard (located on the far right side of your keyboard). For most computers, turn on your "Num Lock" light. If it doesn't work, try turning the "Num Lock" off.
